Need an Editor? Christian Indie Authors

Image
Christian Indie Editing Services  What and Why?    Over the last decade or so, independent authors have enjoyed a new era in the history of publishing. Since the debut of the Amazon Kindle, independent authors can write and release their own hard work without having to share the profits with anyone else. But, as with most things, even the best of us can use some help to put out our best work. That is the motivation behind the Christian Indie Editing Services Facebook group. We are here to connect Christian indie authors with Christian indie editors and others who provide services to authors. It is hoped that the connections we make will turn into relationships that will then help to create the fabric of a community. You are invited to become part of that community. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Steve Mathisen. I am one of the admins of  Christian Indie Editing Services and I am a writer and an editor. I have written articles, been published in anthologies, cont

Alexa Dot Best Thing Since Sliced Bread

Image
Alexa  Echo Dot  I know some tablets come with Alexa, but my Alexa sits on my desk. I have three of them through my house. I love to turn the music on and have stereo sound.  Alexa / echo dot will cost you a bout around 49.00. If mine quit working, I would buy another one seconds later.  We love them so much I've bought 4 of them  for family members.  I love the automated options.  Every day at noon and at midnight Alexa automatically tells me the weather.  Every week on Wed evening she tells me it's  time to take out the trash. She tells me every day at 11.00 it's time to take your medicine.  Any time I want to hear the news, I just say Alexa play the news. I have her set up to tell me these things when I ask about the news.  NFL update  New things to try with Alexa Bible verse of the day  Rush Limbaugh Update  The news from fox  Then she gives me Two Tennis updates  Then she tells me the weather.  Did I mention you can pair her to your blue-

Wednesday's #FaithandInk Devotional ==> Losing Sight

“No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.” ~ Matthew 6:24 Sometimes as an author it’s tempting to take our eyes off of the real reason that we do what we do. It’s tempting to shift the focus from glorifying Christ, to supporting our families financially. I’ve been there recently. I’ll be honest, our family has been in a rough spot and I thought that maybe, just maybe if I could finish the book projects that I was working on, then we wouldn’t have to worry about it. Or maybe if I could increase my affiliate sales, things would improve. After all, I know several writers that are making a living from their book royalties and/or affiliate sales (and I have been one of them in the past), and I really believe that someday God has that in store for me again. But I also know that today isn’t that day. It doesn’t simply happen overnight, and i

"You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good..." ~ Genesis 50:20 Joseph spoke the above words after he had been through a lot. His brothers were worried that he would hold a grudge against them, because let's face it, he had every right to by human standards. However, he looked past the bad intentions, past the hurt, the pain, the wrong doings, and he saw what God did through all of those bad things. A while back, I had a bad day (to say the least). I was behind on my work and trying to get caught up when it happened… My cat knocked over a vase that I had sitting on my desk, soaking everything: my research, notes, to-do list, keyboard, mouse, computer, laptop, spare printer paper, 3 of my notebooks, my work binder, a book, and all my notepads, along with myself and the clothes that I was wearing... I could go on, but I bet you get the point. As I sat there lividly looking at the water and desperately dabbing at the electronics, t

WISDOM’S HIGH WAY by Ginger & Edward Kasser

Image
Escaping situations that seem impossible. Are you ready for an edge that will alter your life? The Bible says that wisdom has the advantage of success. Find real spiritual and emotional help by applying the precepts of wisdom from the Bible. Learn how to escape the downward spiral of defeat, and how to choose a path to success. Wisdom’s High Way will help you restore confidence in your faith and turn bitter defeat into sweet victory. Our family did not learn to apply the precepts of wisdom until years after our life turned upside down. Even though we sought advice in uncertain times,; our life became a calamity. To our dismay, we discovered that most Christians do not know how to respond or help someone in that kind of situation. Over the next six years we plummeted on a downward spiral. Finally, we dove into the writings of the wisest man to ever live: King Solomon. It changed our approach to life and the decisions we make. >>>You need to read this book because it will

Today's topic... Writing Plans “I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that I planned many times to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now) in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles.” ~ Romans 1:13 When I read the above verse this morning, I couldn’t help but think of a book that I have been planning to write for almost three years now. It’s a very important book to me, and I know it will bring glory to God. However, while I have been planning to write it, things keep preventing me from doing so. Have you ever experienced something like that? I am very encouraged that Paul went through the same thing. He planned to go to Rome to share the Gospel with the Gentiles and reap a harvest for God – but God was determining his steps and prevented him from doing so (Pro. 16:9). It wasn’t that Paul’s plans weren’t good; it just wasn’t God’s timing. That’s the way I now see the bo

Wednesday #FaithandInk Devotional ==> When It's Not A Bestseller

“Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil.” ~ Proverbs 15:16 I launched a new book earlier this month, and it was a huge hit. It was the first book I had published in almost two years, and it felt great.   However, even with all the book hype and everyone telling me how much they love the book and the message behind it, it wasn’t a bestseller.  Part of that was because I sold copies behind the scenes that didn’t help my rankings. I know that. And part of it was because I believed in the message of the book so much that I gave away quite a few copies for free.  People don’t tend to buy things they have already read.  But no matter what the cause, it still hurt my overall sales and rankings. As an author, that hurts. Which brought me to Proverbs 15:16 today. This is what I keep coming back to. No all writing is about the money. It isn’t all about the rankings or even the reviews and recognition. As Christian authors, we write f

Happy Wednesday! Here's today's #FaithandInk devotional:

“… Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” ~1 Corinthians 15:58 I love to write, but to be successful as a writer, we have to do more than just write. We have to do the research, marketing, maintenance, and everything else required to pay the bills. And we have to stay on task. If I wrote about whatever I wanted to on any given day, I would have over 1,000 books started, and none of them finished. The same would probably be true of blog posts. Life as an author isn't simply about writing; it's about producing. So, while I don’t always need motivation to write, I might need motivation to finish a project. Can you relate to that? Do you ever have a day when you just can’t seem to get into the grove? When I am in need of encouragement or motivation to move forward, I look to God’s Word. Believe it or not, God has a lot to say about motivation; the Bible is simply chock-full of encour
